80's song of the day: "Dangerous" by Roxette

In spite of the tragedy in London, the Group of Eight still managed to pull it together for the sake of others and agreed to pledge $50 billion to Africa, "despite foot-dragging by the Americans". G.W. Bush and his administration have also been noted for "actively trying to water down the G8's efforts on the issues" of climate control.

Is the fool's four years up yet? Can we get someone in the White House who doesn't have a personal interest in oil?

My thoughts and prayers go out to our neighbors across the pond. When will we ever learn that violence doesn't help to get any point across? And that life is extraordinarily precious?

There's a series of massive concerts in various major cities for Live 8 today, my generation's version of Live Aid. For free full-length on-demand videos of all the performances, go to AOLmusic.

I have to admit that I'm a little sad that I didn't find out about this until the day before. Where was all the advertising? Where were the commercials, billboards, and print ads? This was a huge event for an incredible cause but I didn't see it in the papers or hear about it on the radio until the day of. Obviously someword got out because there were more than a handful of people at the Philly concert so North America couldn't have been oblivious to it. But I feel like the whole thing flew right over my head. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait another 20 years for the next one.

Apart from my little gripe, I'm really glad to see so many people care about the state of Africa. Hope the Group of 8 were watching too.
