While I was in Australia, Hamilton Island and Sydney to be exact, I collected some notes:
- In roughly 80% of the restaurants that I visited, the time that it took the food to get on the table and for the waiter to bring the check was about double that of my experiences in American restaurants. Unfortunately, I think my time in the States has trained me to be quite impatient when it comes to these kind of things. - When you ask for lemonade, you get something that very much resembles Sprite. - "No worries." = "Okay.", "That's not a problem.", and "You're welcome."
Some things that New Yorkers can learn from Aussies: - You don't have to be rude to get what you want. - The city looks and feels better when people don't feel the need to vandalize every square inch of public property. - It is possible to have a subway system where stations are clean, well-lit, and not wreaking of rotting food and excrement. - Learn to love the tourists. After all, they mean no harm. They just want to see the city where you live because they think it's pretty great too. At least try not to knock any of them down on your way to work or walk right into their shot of the giant Cup-a-noodle.
