It's been about 3 weeks since I've gotten the John Mayer "Any Given Thursday" DVD and I don't think I've gone more than 2 days in a row without watching some portion of it. Some highlights include:
- his cover of Sting's "Message In A Bottle"
- the stripped down, high energy version of "Love Song For No One"
- his guitar solo and the crowd's enthusiasm in "Your Body Is a Wonderland"
- absolutely every millisecond of "Covered in Rain" (previously unrecorded)
- the "remixed" intro and bonus snippets of two 80's hits in "'83"
I dug up my CD of "Room For Squares" after being reminded of the great stuff on there and ordered "Heavier Things". Seriously, people, go out and get this DVD!
Things to do when I go back to Singapore:
1) Enjoy the view and food from the Top of the "M".
2) Visit the Night Safari during sunset.
3) Explore and dine at Chijmes.
4) Take pictures at the Esplanade and maybe even catch a show there.
I'm sure there will be more updates as the time gets closer.
Tower Records has been selling selected DVD's for $9.99 lately. The first one of these steals that I got was The Miles Davis Story. I picked up another one today because I've had my eyes on John Mayer's Any Given Sunday for a while now, patiently waiting for a good deal. I grabbed that DVD the second I saw the $9.99 sticker on it and if I had known the contents of the disc beforehand, I would have been more than willing to shell out twice that amount.
Seeing the man play guitar with such passion and artistry was inspiration to a craving soul. He felt the music on such an intimate level that you can't help but to be drawn into it. Watching his fingers fly across the strings with such ease and the expressive results made me believe that I could do the same--or at least kinda sorta something like it. Not to mention how damn sexy he looked...
