The 80's are alive and well at The Culture Club! I caught Debbie Gibson's set tonight and was reminded what good pop music used to be. The crowd was hyped and the lady of the night brought everyone to their feet screaming her lyrics from the top of their lungs! I almost didn't go but then I thought to myself, "How often do you get to see your first musical inspiration performing the very songs that got you hooked for life in an intimate setting?"
She actually opened her stint at Cabaret tonight as well. I never thought that I would want to see that show again, but now I think I just might change my mind...
There's two feet of snow on the ground and so what did I decide to do at 7:30 this morning? Shovel and push my dad's Jeep out of the mess, that's what! Had to get to work to keep my tush out of trouble so I shoveled like a maniac and trudged through the knee-deep muck trying not to think about the sane people who are staying home today.
For the second time in my life, I saw Times Square deserted, save a few stragglers here and there. Wish I had my camera on me, but alas, I didn't so I guess I'll just have to wait until the next blizzard to get these pictures... Until then, here's a slideshow courtesy of NY Times.
If you haven't already, go see Chicago! I haven't seen the Broadway show that it's based on, I'm darn sure going to make it my business to catch a show now! Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger are incredibly energetic and convincing as cabaret performers but it was a little awkward seeing Richard Gere sing and dance (especially the part where he rips his pants off and prances around in his boxers). Queen Latifah tore it up in her big musical number and who knew that sweet, petite Mya could do such a great job as an angry, bitter convict...without any makeup too!
It's been a month since I've been back and the homesickness has not abated one bit. On the bright side, that's one month closer to my Masters and to moving up the studio food chain. Whoop. Dee. Doo.
Today, I met MAX. I know it might be a little premature to say this, but I think this one is a keeper! It's so exciting to be involved in something so powerful. Fortunately, I wasn't plagued with the problems that every rookie complains about. Hopefully, as we spend more time together we'll come up with something that will last.
