Okay, make sure you're sitting down before you read any further.

Ready?

I just realized that if you turn on Platinum Sounds as your soundtrack in OS 9.2 and tell it to make a sound when you click and scroll through a drop-down menu, you actually get it as a stereo signal! In other words, if you click on the extreme right side of the screen, the sound will only play in the right channel and the same goes for the left side. Anything in between and it interpolates the stereo image. How incredibly cool is that? It's these kind of things that make me love Apple so much. Their people cared enough to go through the trouble of adding a feature that no one expects, few will notice, but everyone who picks up on it will fall out of their chair with excitement! Or maybe it's just me.

Driven to desperation, I finally caved and splurged on a PowerBook today! I've been a Mac person for quite a few years now but never actually owned a Mac until now. I lived on one at school and work, but came home to a P(iece of)C(rap). When the deadline for a class project loomed over me and my PC thought that it was cute to keep crashing despite my many efforts to fix the problems, that was the last straw. Boy, do I sound like one of those Apple ads, or what?

The Apple Store in SoHo was very cooperative about letting me use my student discount from NYU at their store. They price-matched it without any fuss and I was really pleased with the service I received. If anyone hasn't had a chance to visit an Apple store yet...go! The design of the store was really a lesson in appreciating the beauty of simplicity.

I'm just thrilled beyond words at the moment! I have a PowerBook!!
